What is an ORI number?

Your ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) tells FDLE where your background check results need to go. Always use the ORI number provided by your employer/licensing agency whenever possible. FDLE’s ORI Fee Search can also help validate ORIs and fees.

Frequently Asked General ORI Questions

  • An ORI number, or Originating Agency Identifier, is the code used to route your fingerprint background check to the correct Florida agency, licensing board, employer, or organization.

  • The ORI tells FDLE where your results should go. If the wrong ORI is used, your background check may be delayed, rejected, or sent to the wrong agency.

  • Your ORI is usually provided by the agency, employer, school, licensing board, or organization requesting your fingerprints. It may be listed in your application instructions or background screening paperwork.

  • Yes. If you are unsure, we can help you review your paperwork and point you in the right direction. However, the requesting agency is the best source for confirming the exact ORI you need.

  • No. ORI numbers are mainly needed for Florida Live Scan submissions. Ink fingerprint cards and some FBI background checks may not require a Florida ORI.

  • Using the wrong ORI can cause delays, rejected submissions, or results being sent to the wrong agency. Always confirm your ORI before your appointment.

  • Yes. FDLE and agency fees may vary depending on the ORI category and the type of background screening required.

  • Not always. Our rolling fee and mobile fee are separate from FDLE, FBI, or agency fees. The final cost depends on the service and ORI used.

  • We provide Live Scan fingerprinting for many Florida ORI categories, including healthcare, real estate, education, security, childcare, and professional licensing. Please bring your ORI to the appointment.

  • Yes. All fingerprinting services are by appointment only. No walk-ins.

  • Yes. Mobile fingerprinting is available starting at $30 extra, depending on location, distance, and number of applicants.

  • Bring a valid government-issued photo ID, your ORI number, any agency instructions, and payment method.

  • We can help you look at the information you have, but your employer, licensing board, or requesting agency should confirm the exact ORI required.

  • No. Different professions, agencies, and licensing boards use different ORI numbers. For example, healthcare, real estate, education, childcare, and security licenses may each use different ORIs.

  • Sometimes, but not always. You should never assume one ORI works for another license, job, or agency. Always confirm with the requesting agency.

  • Possibly. Many agencies require fingerprints to be submitted directly under their specific ORI. Prior fingerprints may not transfer.

  • Most appointments take about 10–15 minutes once your paperwork and ORI are ready.

  • Processing time depends on FDLE, FBI, and the requesting agency. Some results are processed quickly, while others may take longer depending on the agency’s review process.

  • Yes. We provide ink fingerprinting on FD-258 cards for out-of-state licensing, federal purposes, and other agencies that require hard cards.

  • Click Make an Appointment or Contact to schedule. Fingerprinting is appointment only, and we’ll help make the process smooth and professional.
